Swimming & Lifeguards

Updated October 5, 2026. Nickerson Beach Park offers Atlantic Ocean access and seasonal swimming pools. Ocean and pool operations can change with weather, water conditions, staffing and the park calendar.

Ocean swimming

Enter the ocean only in an open, designated swimming area when lifeguards are on duty. Follow flags, signs and staff instructions. A calm-looking surface can still contain rip currents, strong shore break and rapidly changing conditions. Never swim near closed or unguarded sections.

Seasonal pools

Nassau County publishes the pool opening date and current daily bracelet fees on its official Nickerson Beach page. In 2026, daily bracelet prices are:

  • Nassau County resident adult with valid Leisure Pass: $10
  • Resident child age 2–17, senior age 60+, veteran or disabled visitor with required proof: $6
  • Non-resident adult: $16
  • Non-resident child age 2–17: $11

Daily bracelets are valid only on the purchase date. A campground reservation does not include pool admission. Leisure Passes cannot be purchased at Nickerson Beach.

Lifeguards and closures

Published park hours are not the same as guarded swimming hours. Because the county does not publish a permanent year-round lifeguard schedule, confirm pool hours and ocean swimming status with staff at 516-571-7700 before a special trip.
